How To Restore Internet Explorer Favorites

Every backup process we made will be followed by restore process. The users perform both of them for the purpose of transferring the tons of their important data from old computer into the new computer.

Yesterday I showed you the way to backup the Internet Explorer or IE favorites. Today, we will learn how to restore it.



Before The Procedures

I assume that you had saved the IE favorites’ backup file in your USB thumb drive. Now, let say, you are in front of your new computer and are ready to begin the restore process.



The Procedures

1. Attach the USB thumb drive that contains the IE favorites’ backup file.
   
    
   
   
   
2. Click --> when the Run window appears, type iexplore in its textbox –-> click OK
   
   
   
   Or you can simply click the icon to launch the IE application.
   
   
   
3. When the Internet Explorer launched, you will see its interface below. It should have the menu bar on it.
   
   
   
   Note:
   In case you don’t see the IE menu bar, please enable it by right click on title bar. When the drop-down menu appears, click to show the sign on menu bar option. See the arrow below
   
   
   
   
   
4. Now, click File –-> click Import and Export… –-> the Import/Export Settings window appears.
   
   
   
   
   
5. Click radio button Import from a file –-> click Next
   
   
   
   
   
6. Click check box Favorites –-> click Next
   
   
   
   
   
7. Click Browse… to find the location of IE favorites’ backup file, eg: in your thumb drive –-> click Open –-> click Next –-> click Import –-> wait until the process successful –-> click Finish.
   
   

How To Backup Internet Explorer Favorites

Today is my last working day in my current workplace. Next week I will start my duty in the new workplace. Now, I am busy to backup all data in my old computer (the computer is belong to my organization) which is considered important for me. This, including my Internet Explorer or IE favorites. I will restore these data then, in the new computer which I will get when I start working in my new workplace.

Without wasting my time, let I show you how I back up my Internet Explorer (IE) favorites.


The Procedures

1. Click --> when the Run window appears, type iexplore in its text box –-> click OK.

6. Click Export –-> click Finish. Now you will see the IE favorites backup file called bookmark.htm like below.
   
   
   
   
   
7. You can save the bookmark.htm file into thumb drive for future restoration of Internet Explorer favorites in another computer.

Internet Explorer Problem – “Gods Must Be Creazy!!!”

A picture spell a thousand word. That is what can I say in my posting today because I don’t know how to explain to you about this problem. Just look at the picture below

As you can see in the yellow ellipse shape above, the sentence stated Google –gods must be creazy!!!. So my posting today is about how to get rid of that sentence from the web browser of Internet Explorer.

As an additional information, this problem happen on the computer system which Window Vista installed inside it.

Solution

This problem occur when the computer had been attack by virus named pissu.exe. Follow the steps below

1. Remove the pissu.exe virus by scanning the computer using the antivirus program. The program must has the latest update definition. Perform the Full System Scan.
   
   
2. After the scanning process complete, right click the Internet Explorer’s icon on Windows desktop –-> choose & click Properties –-> the Internet Properties’ dialog box appears on the screen
   
   
   
   
3. Based on the picture above, click Advanced tab –-> click Reset… --> the Reset Internet Explorer Settings’ dialog box appears on the screen
   
   
4. Click Reset and wait –-> click Close –-> click OK
   
   
5. Restart the Internet Explorer’s program.

The Internet Explorer Program Cannot Launch After Double Click

This problem occurs when the computer users double click the icon of Internet Explorer on the Windows XP desktop in order to launch an Internet Explorer program.

After the computer users double click, the Internet Explorer program show itself for approximately one or two seconds. Then, the program will close itself automatically and no error message appears to describe the symptom.

Solution

1. Right click the icon of Internet Explorer on the Windows XP desktop –-> click Properties –-> the box of Internet Explorer Properties will be displayed like below  
   
   
   
   
2. Based on the picture above, click the Advanced tab –-> under Settings, find out the word Browsing
   
   
3. Under word Browsing, scroll down your mouse to find the checkbox named Enable third-party browser extensions* –-> tick to remove the   symbol from it –-> click Apply –-> click OK
   
   
4. Try to re-launch the Internet Explorer program to see the effect.

The Default Icon Of Internet Explorer Is Missing From Windows Desktop Interface

Actually, I got this problem after finish perform the first time installation of Windows XP. After a Windows XP OS load completely, I cannot see the default icon of Internet Explorer on the Windows XP desktop. Also, I got no error message that can explained to me about this problem.


Solution

What you need to do when encounter this type of problem is replace the DWORD value reside in Windows XP registry. To do so, you can follow the steps below

1. Click Start –-> click Run
   
   
2. Type regedit in the Open: text box –-> press Enter to access the Windows XP registry editor.
   
   
3. Find and click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE –-> SOFTWARE –-> Microsoft –-> Windows –-> CurrentVersion –-> Explorer –-> HideDesktopIcon –-> NewStartPanel
   
   
4. Find and click REG_DWORD data item named [871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D] –-> replace its data value from 1 to 0  
   
   
5. Click OK –-> close the Windows XP registry editor.
   
   
6. Point your mouse cursor on the empty space of Windows XP desktop  –-> right click and click Refresh
   
   
7. After refresh, you will see the original icon of Internet Explorer displayed on Windows XP desktop.
