The Default Icon Of Internet Explorer Is Missing From Windows Desktop Interface

Actually, I got this problem after finish perform the first time installation of Windows XP. After a Windows XP OS load completely, I cannot see the default icon of Internet Explorer on the Windows XP desktop. Also, I got no error message that can explained to me about this problem.


Solution

What you need to do when encounter this type of problem is replace the DWORD value reside in Windows XP registry. To do so, you can follow the steps below

  1. Click Start –-> click Run

  2. Type regedit in the Open: text box –-> press Enter to access the Windows XP registry editor.

  3. Find and click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE –-> SOFTWARE –-> Microsoft –-> Windows –-> CurrentVersion –-> Explorer –-> HideDesktopIcon –-> NewStartPanel

  4. Find and click REG_DWORD data item named [871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D] –-> replace its data value from 1 to 0  

  5. Click OK –-> close the Windows XP registry editor.

  6. Point your mouse cursor on the empty space of Windows XP desktop  –-> right click and click Refresh

  7. After refresh, you will see the original icon of Internet Explorer displayed on Windows XP desktop.
