Windows Vista Deployment Using Microsoft WAIK – Part 5

Here I come with the fifth part of Windows Vista deployment topic. So far, you have done the following activities on the reference computer.

1. Prepare the reference computer for image capture process.
   
   
2. Capture the Windows Vista image file from reference computer.
   
   
3. Sharing the Windows Vista image file in reference computer.
   
   

Now, you are really ready to deploy the image you captured into destination computer and this FIFTH PART and beyond will guide you how to do that.

Actually you can divide this deployment task into THREE stages like below:

1. Partition and format the hard disk using Microsoft Diskpart.
   
   
2. Make a network connection to the reference computer (which has share folder in it).
   
   
3. Copy and deploy Windows Vista image file (eg: vista.wim) into destination computer.

For your information, the THREE stages of tasks above should be done in destination computer.


THIS PART WILL GUIDE YOU HOW TO PARTITION AND FORMAT THE HARD DISK OF DESTINATION COMPUTER USING MICROSOFT DISKPART.



What You Need

1. Windows PE bootable CD.

Before The Procedures

1. Please make sure the destination computer can boot from CD or DVD by setting up your BIOS.
   
   

The Procedures

1. Power on the destination computer –-> INSTANTLY put the Windows PE bootable CD into CD-ROM drive and close the CD-ROM door bay.
   
   
2. When the sentence Press any key to boot from CD or DVD… appears on the screen, press .
   
   
   
   
3. The black interface that show Windows is loading files… appears –-> wait until Windows PE completely loading.
   
   
   
   
4. Now, you are in the Windows PE command prompt environment platform. The interface below will appears on your screen.
   
   
   
   
5. Based on above, type diskpart –-> press --> the Microsoft DiskPart will launch. See below.
   
   
   
   
6. Now, type the commands as listed below in sequence (top-down) and don’t forget to press after you type each of them.
   
   
   select disk 0     the hard disk will be selected.
   clean     the hard disk will be erased.
   create partition primary     the partition will be created.
   select partition 1     the partition 1 will be selected if it has TWO partition in a hard disk.
   active   the partition 1 will be activated.
   format fs=ntfs quick     format partition 1 with ntfs file system.
   assign letter=<drive letter>     the drive letter can be C: or D:. If the destination computer has 1 hard disk, the drive letter C: is suitable.
   exit     Exit Microsoft DiskPart utility.
   
   
   
7. You are done partition and format the hard disk of destination computer. So, the next step is to make the network connection from destination computer to the reference computer that has Windows Vista image file (vista.wim) and imagex program shared.
